Home School Coordinator

The role of the Home School Coordinator:

Some people will know who I am but for those who haven’t met me yet, my name is Lisa Bouchier. I have worked as a teacher in Scoil Lorcáin since 2001 but now I am working as the Home School Coordinator. This is a new position in our school which began in January 2009. The role of a Home School Coordinator is to:

  1. Encourage parents/ guardians to become actively involved in school life and to work together in partnership with the school on various activities during the year. Some examples include Maths for Fun! Story Reading Sessions, Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Paired Reading.

  2. Organise classes for parents. Examples include English classes, Computer Classes, Dance classes, Photography Classes, Art & Craft Classes etc. If there are any classes that you would be interested in, let me know.

  3. Help parents become more familiar with the Curriculum by offering workshops for Parents/ Guardians in tricky areas such as Maths and Phonics. By attending the workshops it will help parents understand the topic and stop your child saying ‘that’s not the way the teacher does it’. It will hopefully ease the stress at home-work time.

  4. A Parents Library is available in the school where parents are welcome to drop in, borrow a book and return it when they have finished reading it. The library is open every Monday morning from 9am to 10am.

  5. If you are free on Wednesday mornings from 9am- 11am a group of parents meet in the library and work on various Art & Craft projects.

  6. Home Visits are an important part of the Home School Coordinator’s role.

  7. Home Visits are a way of communicating upcoming information about school events with parents Home Visits are a way of supporting parents and developing a partnership between the home and school
