    • Home School Coordinator

      Home School Community Liaison Coordinator.

Some people will know who I am but for those who haven’t met me yet, my name is Lisa Bouchier. I have worked as a teacher in Scoil Lorcáin since 2001 but now I am working as the Home School Coordinator. This is a new position in our school which began in January 2009. The role of a Home School Coordinator is to:

      1. Encourage parents/ guardians to become actively involved in school life and to work together in partnership with the school on various activities during the year. Some examples include Maths for Fun! Story Reading Sessions, Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Paired Reading.

      1. Organise classes for parents. Examples include English classes, Computer Classes, Dance classes, Photography Classes, Art & Craft Classes etc.

      1. Help parents become more familiar with the Curriculum by offering workshops for Parents/ Guardians in tricky areas such as Maths and Phonics. By attending the workshops it will help parents understand the topic and stop your child saying ‘that’s not the way the teacher does it’. It will hopefully ease the stress at home-work time.

      1. Home Visits are an important part of the Home School Coordinator’s role.

Home Visits are a way of communicating upcoming information about school events with parents

Home Visits are a way of supporting parents and developing a partnership between the home and school

Home Visits are NOT an emergency

Home Visits are NOT to enforce school discipline

Home Visits are NOT to check up on…

Home Visits are NOT to take responsibility away from parents

      1. Parents are welcome to drop into the school to see me and have a chat and a cuppa!

      1. A Parents Library is available in the school where parents are welcome to drop in, borrow a book and return it when they have finished reading it. The library is open every Monday morning from 9am to 10am.

      1. If you are free on Wednesday mornings from 9am- 11am a group of parents meet in the library and work on various Art & Craft projects.

      • Pupil of the Week

Each week students of excellence are chosen in Scoil Lorcáin and are presented with gold stars for their exceptional behaviour, class contribution and all round performance. The boys are then presented with a "Pupil of the Week" certificate and a gold star.

With the twinning of Scoil Lorcáin and the Kireka School for Children with Special Needs in Kampala, Uganda, the boys have decided to give their gold stars each week to their pen-pals in Kireka. The Bank of Ireland has kindly agreed to match each gold star with a financial amount.

Florant Sherifi (9), 4th Class and Colin Cassidy (10), 5th Class are both winners of the award. They explained how they earn marks during the week when they are good in class and at the end of the week, the person with the most marks wins the title of Pupil of the Week. "It makes you want to get it every week" Colin said. "Ya and it makes you want to be better every week 'cos you know you want to win it" added Florant.
